Food and Wine

I have zero plans to fix an elaborate V-day dinner this year. (I'm considering talking to John about ordering Chinese take out ... Which can be extremely romantic when shared in the right setting). However, I am thinking about surprising him with a batch of these cupcakes, the recipe can be found here.

As far as the wine goes, I've always considered red wine or champagne to be a prerequisite for a romantic evening. My suggestions are Penfolds Shiraz or Schramsberg Brut Rosé. Both are extremely compatible with a variety of food and priced under $30.00. What are your plans for Valentines dinner? Are you cooking/ baking or going out for something delicious? Also, please share your wine suggestions!

  1. Those cupcakes look amazing, but I imagine that rose-shaped topping would be quite difficult to make no? Baking is always a bit tricky to me, sometimes it turns out just like the recipe, other times it's so bad it's funny. Personally, I prefer white wine or rosé, but my favourite has to be the bubblies, things with bubbles just taste better! No big plans here for V-day, although I was promised a nice dinner at home, so we'll see! My parents are doing this big 8 course dinner at a fancy restaurant, they better not eat the whole day, 8 courses is mad. One time I was in Paris for V-day and got a beautiful swarovski ring under the eifel tower, that was pretty memorable.

  2. Unfortunately, my palette for wine (although I love them) hover around the $7 bottle of wine that to others taste atrocious.

I think chinese food is the perfect way to celebrate Valentines Day (we've done that for the past three years and nothing is more romantic than chinese food on the couch while watching a zombie movie). This year, we're making pretzels and fried pickles together. Something about kneading dough and delicately shaping them is pretty romantic... although I guess fried pickles and beer aren't exactly Valentines Day recommended. :)

  3. I think fried pickles and beer are extremely romantic if you're happy and in love. :) Your Valentines plans sound sweet!

As far as the wine, one of my favorites is Keller Geister German Rhine. A big bottle cost next to nothing. Good stuff!

  4. Athena - how romantic! The last time I was in Paris I was with my parents... No handsome guys and no kisses under the Eiffel Tower. :( I'm thinking that's one to add to my bucket list.
